A multiplicity of narrowly-focused programs and services is an excellent strategy to fail, both for service and commodity providers. It is not a strategy for delivering efficient solutions. Efficient solutions require an ability to personalize and prioritize based on “an acquaintance with the particulars,” seen in the context of whole people, communities and systems.
Beneath the current dissatisfaction with market-offered performance lies partially conflicting expectations and values. People expect elected business their interests to be taken into account when choices are made and implemented in the services they choose. However, the market can’t provide that, given the mono-specialization of most companies. But why settle for one or another ?
